Often seen on athletes, exercising women (and sometimes men) and those women who don’t have time or the desire to fix their hair, they have earned a reputation as a style-less, unfashionable way to doing hair. The truth is that using a pony tail in a stylish way isn’t as hard as you may think, and it can be very feminine and pretty at the same time.

One of the best tips you can use when putting your hair into a ponytail is to do something different with it. Try putting your ponytail to the side or at the nape of your neck. Another great thing to do to make it unique and elegant is to tease the crown of your head so that it sits higher, giving it a more modern look. Headbands, pretty barrettes, and bangs also add great style and elegance to the standard pony tail style.
Some people who wear their hair in a ponytail a lot choose to get some unique highlights underneath their hair so it will be visible when the hair is put up. Some through a ponytail up into a stylish bun, while others curl their hair so it doesn’t just hang limp. The basic rule of ponytails is that as long as it’s not a boring, plain pony with the hair hanging flat and nothing else done with it, you’re golden. You can also try keeping the hair ruffled as you put it up instead of smoothing it down to give it a more tousled look.
